One of the newest trends in the housing industry is now coming to Lennar – the comeback of multi-generational living. Extended family living together has made a major resurgence to American living and Lennar is excited to be America’s first homebuilder to bring this floorplan to their community in Maple Grove. On Saturday, September 8th, 2012, Lennar will unveil their all-new NEXT GEN – The Home within a Home model to the Bonaire community in Maple Grove.
“This is very exciting to our company and to our customers and we are thrilled to be able to bring this option to Minnesota,” said Bill Burgess, Division President. “We are constantly keeping our finger on the pulse of new trends in homebuilding – and this NEXT GEN home is taking the company to the next level of innovation in homebuilding and providing homebuyers with even more choices and outlets than ever before.”
Having more generations living together can be beneficial for everyone involved. Studies show that one of out of six people already lives in a multi-generational household and that by 2020 there will be an overwhelming trend for this type of living space.
After much research and seeing a rising need for this type of living situation, Lennar decided to design a distinctive floorplan that can accommodate different living arrangements while still providing great use of space, square footage and privacy. “We have created our Home within a Home to allow for dual living situations without sacrificing comfort,” stated Burgess.
Each NEXT GEN suite includes a separate entrance, living room, kitchenette, one-car garage, laundry and private outdoor living space. Lennar designed this unique floorplan to be incorporated into the main home floorplan in a way that allows it to be a separate space but also offers direct access from the main house, depending upon the family’s needs.
“Imaging having your parents nearby to help care for your children, or saving money on adult care for them because they live with you,” said Burgess. “Or being able to provide enough space for your child who needs to move in after college – now you can have all that and still have the size home you need for your family – it’s a home within a home.”
Plus, Lennar’s NEXT GEN homes are all a part of the “Everything’s Included” homes that offers buyers the latest in technology, energy-efficiency and the most popular features included at no extra cost!

Hmmm, next gen home. Well, I would like one of these homes however….1) I’m 59 and would like my 82 year old mother to live in the “apartment”. However she would also be taking care of my kids – and going up and down stairs is not going to work for her, nor for me much longer. Why are you making these two story homes? Next gen typically means older living with younger and helping out with younger children in the family and these older helpers can’t navigate stairs. OR, next gen to me could also mean my children moving in with me, at any rate I don’t want to be the one climbing stairs but there is NO WAY I’m giving the larger portion of my home to my children and putting myself in the smaller quarters. Your next gen home is a wonderful concept but needs to be thought out a bit further….,
If you come up with a one level plan for Minnesota let me know. Thanks!
