Lennar recognizes that its commitment to community consists far more than building quality homes for homebuyers, which is why Lennar has recently made a generous donation to go toward helping homeless individuals and families rebuild their lives at Mercy House in Santa Ana.
Mercy House, dedicated to homeless prevention by providing transitional and permanent housing, has partnered with HomeAid Orange County to develop a brand-new permanent supportive housing community called the Frances Xavier Residence. The 15,000 square foot housing facility will offer affordable rents and supportive services to those who are ready to move from the transitional housing program.
Lennar’s donation will directly support the Frances Xavier Residence, which is currently in the planning stages, and will offer 12 one-, two- and three-bedroom fully furnished units with kitchens, living rooms and up to two bathrooms, per unit. A laundry facility, on-site parking, property manager’s unit with office space and a computer room that will be utilized for hosting life skills classes and after-school programs will be included.
Additionally, an outside center courtyard with children’s play area and recreational space will also serve as amenities designed to keep residents connected.
“Our donation is only a small token of our appreciation for how Mercy House and HomeAid make a difference in our local community,” said John Baayoun, Division President of Lennar California Coastal Division. “As a homebuilder, we feel honored to be able to give back to the community through these organizations that provide hope to those without a home of their own.”
Baayoun further explained that the donation is made possible through the Lennar homeowners, who contribute a small percentage of the sale price of their new home to the Lennar Charitable Housing Foundation. The LCHF was created to provide assistance to people in need of shelter by providing ongoing financial support to local charities that serve the homeless.
“We are incredibly grateful to our homeowners who are continually helping the communities they live in by supporting the foundation,” said Baayoun. “All of their contributions allow us to give to these very worthwhile causes.”
Mercy House, HomeAid and the city of Santa Ana have proven a successful history by partnering on four prior housing projects. Lennar’s donation will help aid in the future success of this new housing development, which is slated to open in Fall 2011.
